Lately

I'm doing my best to enjoy summer, formerly my favourite season, but it's been kind of a shitty season so far. Still, the sun makes me happy and I try to soak up enough precious Vitamin D to keep me going at winter.

Essie Borrowed & Blue

I prefer reds or brights on my toes, but Borrowed & Blue was kind of interesting. I think it goes well with silver or white sandals. The tops of my feet are quite tanned now and B&B made the feet look kind of dirty instead, but I think it'd be a nice shade to wear with an all-white outfit. (Forgive the lackluster polish job - it was really hot that day and I didn't have the patience to apply slowly and precisely.)

My summer course on Anthony Trollope is keeping me very busy. I like to read at my favourite neighbourhood cafe with a lemon ice gelato.

And I guess a part of me is already looking forward to autumn, which is unheard of. One bored lunch hour found me swatching fall shades at the nail bar at the Eaton Centre Sephora. Left to right: Nails Inc. Hampstead Gardens (on sale for $5 so I bought it), OPI for Sephora I Come In Peas, a shade I now can't remember - argh!!!, and Dior Purple Revolution (will purchase eventually - couldn't take my eyes off of it!).

The three perfumes I enjoy in the summer: Ocean by Outremer, Guerlain Aqua Allegoria Mandarine-Basilic (my favourite) and Caudalie Thé des Vignes. I've decided to add unloved perfumes to the blog sale so watch out for that later this month.

Perfume samples (mostly from LuckyScent) that I meant to review and forgot about. Will go through them eventually!

The episode with robin egg blue made me want to wear Chanel Coco Blue and it turned out fabulously. Will review shortly.

I have another buttload of reading to do so excuse my absence on the blogosphere this week. But tell me: What are you guys loving lately?

  1. Yay for perfume samples! And unloved perfumes for sale! And happy polish! And that picture at the top is gorgeous. I think gelato is an excellent accompaniment to novel-reading. It's gotten hot here (well, hot for me: mid-80s [in Celsius-speak, ~30]) and I've come to realize that I need more summer perfumes in my collection. Aedes to the rescue! I'm actually finding myself enjoying fruity florals, which is...unexpected, but not bad! Now I shall go off and reply to your email from, like, 2 weeks ago. I am not great about being on top of things.

    1. We're sitting in the 30 zone reaching for 40. It's breezy today which is quite nice. :) I get confused with too many perfumes and usually rely on the Guerlain Mandarine-Basilic. It's still nice to sniff new things and keep training the nose. Now that I read your Friday Perfume Post, I'm hankering for a whiff of Eau Savage.

    2. Just in case you didn't see my response to your comment––I'm sending you a sample spray vial of Eau Sauvage, so you'll have to let me know what you think of it! And the package should be off to you early this week. And UGH, that sounds *way* too hot. My condolences!

    3. You are way too sweet! This week hasn't officially started but you made it, Amy! Thank you! :D

  2. I hope you're doing ok, Liz! That gelato looks delicious. I've been loving lighter coverage on my face lately and a juicy bright lip - you know, the usual :) Sending lots of hugs your way!

    1. Thanks, Monika. It's been a real trial and I'm hanging in there, but there are those days when you just want to run away from everything - ya know? Thankfully there are a lot to appreciate in life! Hugs!

  3. That gelato looks yummmm! And I like your blue toes and silver sandals. I need reading glasses so there's no way in hell I can paint my toes at the moment. I can barely see them haha!
I'm loving my Burberry shadows at the moment. They are just easy and natural and last all day in the heat!

    1. It is yum! Maybe I'll do that again today. :)

Hey, get Marky to do your toes for you! That's what I did for my mom last week. :)

  4. Mmm you've got me craving gelato now. Or a blood orange sorbet would be fine too.. *drooling slightly*
Currently loving facial mists! It's so hot out lately that I need a facial refresher now and then yet still need extra hydration so the Coconut Quench by Super by Dr. Nicholas Perricone is perfect.

    1. Oh, you've reminded me that I have a Caudalie mist which is very neglected. I'm going makeupless this weekend and will follow suit. :D

  5. You take the prettiest pictures (re: that lovely sky and treeline)
I'm loving the fantastic weather that (as you know) only came to Vancouver recently. I only wish I wasn't working so I didn't have to wait til the weekends to go frolicking in the sun!

    1. Thanks, Angela! I noticed that photo taking skills align directly with frequency of blogging. :>

Hope you're getting your weekend's worth of sun right now! x

  6. I actually prefer blue on my toenails...it does make your feet look nice and tan! My only problem is that the only pair of sandals I brought with me has turquoise embellishments, and matching my toenails to my shoes is a LIIIIITTLE bit over-the-top :D

    1. I like brighter blues on toes but the pale blue was not bad. :)

Wasn't matchy matchy making a comeback at some point? At the very least, put them on and admire your feet at home!

  7. Today, Seattle is having a thunderstorm. Right this moment. WE NEVER HAVE THUNDERSTORMS. AHHHHH. I wonder how Dennison is doing? (I'm at work). We should have bought him the damn thunder shirt. Next time he'll be prepared for the fireworks (he ran and hid in the closet. Under all of the hanging clothing. Our dog is badass, let me tell you. He didn't seem to appreciate me howling with laughter, though.)

I have Essie Mint Candy Apple on my toes right now, though it's now looking very sad and I need to replace it with something stat. DIOR ST TROPEZ!

And what am I loving right now? Hmmm. Uh. Hmm. The sunshine that we were enjoying UNTIL TODAY'S THUNDERSTORM.

    ...sorry for the essay. Meep.

    1. So was Dennison scared? What the heck is a thunder shirt??

Lol, Dior St. Tropez always deserves all caps. ST. TROPEZ!!!

      More essays please. :p

  9. Oooh, I am totally craving deep teals and greens at the moment so I love I Come in Peas! And I know I've said it before but that Oceane EDT bottle is so classically lovely, as is the Guerlain. Summmer...how I crave that too, but we did have some sun again today so that made me smile :) xo

    1. After seeing some fall/winter collection ads this weekend, I'm feeling rather eager for fall weather. :) Enjoy and soon it'll be summer for you again!

  10. I love B&B with the silver sandals Liz, how striking! I know what you mean about some shades looking 'dirty' but I think this combo looks great.

I have been enjoying everything and nothing in particular I think! LOL I am in transition with a lot of things - I'm just using up the last of two Summery fragrances from years past, as well as just on the last bits of a couple makeup items (YES! - just you WAIT till this month's empties) - and I have so many fabulous Summer nail polish colors this time around that the list I'm enjoying is far too long. And the weather has just been too insanely good for us here in Hali this year - so yes, I'm enjoying everything but nothing fully really...is that good or bad??

    1. I have NEVER finished a perfume. It's a dream! *prepares to be mega impressed* :DDD

Glad to hear you're enjoying good weather at last! I can't believe it's me saying this but: I'm really looking forward to fall. It's been a hellish summer and I'm more in the mood to burrow under fleece and light candles than slather sunscreen. But then I look at a juicy nail shade and suddenly it's all gone, LOL. :)

  11. The sad thing is there isn't too much I've been loving, not enough time. I've been squeezing in some shopping when I can, but I think they're impulse buys. I've got to return some stuff....but your sandals are making me want to get shoes. I need some cute, comfy and cheap sandals. I must go on a hunt....I've bought a lot of dresses lately. And they desire a chic little partner.

    1. Well, I agree that the dresses need a chic partner! There are so many sales right now that I'm having to avert my eyes (heck, just keep them closed all the time)... good luck with the sandals!

  12. I really love your summer posts. They always make me feel more benevolent toward the season, which is some feat I tell ya! Sorry to hear this one hasn't been your best though. Love your sandals, and that lemon ice gelato looks seriously delicious. And there's fall to look forward to!

    1. Aww, thanks, MM. :) I'm hoping to enjoy the rest of summer with the crazy course out of the way. Got a lot of sunscreen to finish up! ;)
