Quickie Nail Post: Dior New World Purple 886

Got it last year (or the year before that) and never got around to posting about it.

I thought at the time of purchase that it was a part of the permanent line up. Who the heck can keep track with those things? Certainly not me. All I know is that I don't see this around anymore and I'm sorry for any lemmings that are born as a result.

I'm very picky about shimmery polishes and this one leaves me feeling torn. On the one hand, interesting flecks of gold scattered across a mauve sea. On the other hand, slightly old ladyish?

In short:
I JUST DON'T KNOW, YOU GUYS. CONFLICTED.

  1. New world purple was such a promising name but I am afraid I am on team old lady with this one!

    1. Right??? I might hang on to it in case I like it 30 years from now on. ;)

  2. I think it looks gorgeous--but I do understand where you're coming from. I don't like certain shades in shimmery finishes--I don't know why. Medium to dark purple is one of them. A few subtle microshimmers are ok, but a straight-up purple shimmer just does not work for me. I have a similar shade to this from OPI and I tried it once and never touched it again

    1. There's no reason to actively dislike it but I can't really place what it is about it that has me feeling so lukewarm! I like purples in general but end up being really picky about individual purples in the end. :<

  3. I am also conflicted, but I think I fall on the "pro" side! Could look lovely on toes, too.

    1. I didn't think about putting this on toes but maybe you're on to something. Pedicure season is almost over... ahhhhh!

  4. When in doubt, just add more glitter. And rhinestones. And nail stickers. That should take at least 20 years off, I promise.

I think it's a gorgeous shade, but like everyone above, I can also see where you're coming from.

    1. LOL! You're right. I should layer and add some more excitement. Don't know why that never occurs to me. x__x

  5. Hi Liz, I thought NWP was a permanent color too! Shimmers always give a slight old-lady-ish feel, but who cares! You look young everywhere else. And old ladies usually have good taste :)

    1. Hmmm... I see it online but it's never at any of the Sephoras or department stores I frequent. I shouldn't be so lazy and actually check the sites next time. :) Thanks for the uplifting comment, Dovey. I'm trying to decide whether to keep it or pass it on to someone else. Still on the fence!

  6. I like it, I don't think it is old lady-ish! It's a nice shade.

  7. I like it - I think it actually looks a bit edgy. Perhaps try a single coat over a very dark base to vamp it up?

    1. Or...try some silver glitter over it. I think that would look amazeballs!!!

    2. I wouldn't have thought to add silver but I shall try layering!!

  8. OMG- this is a stunning shade. I think it looks amazing on you, Liz!!

    1. Thank you! I'm still on the fence about it but nice to have support for the shade. :)

    2. I think it's gorgeous, and particularly so against your skin tone. That said- you are the one that has to love it!! :)

    3. I'm hoping that the love will strike me at a different season or in a different mood. :)

    4. It's pretty perfect for the Fall & Winter!!

  9. I think it is permanent - I see it on Sephora and Nordstrom still.

And unfortunately, I think I'm on team old-ladyish...although that's not really nice, because some older women rock all kinds of unique, bright shades. :P

    1. OH OH OH. And then I have story related to this! Back when we first got Dennison, one of the grandma ladies in our apartment complex stopped to tell us how handsome he was. And then she asked if she could pet him, and we said sure, but he's skittish and shy. So she gave him her hand to sniff and said, "Don't worry, I'm legit." We call her "legit grandma" now. :D :D :D

    2. LOL @ legit grandma! Maybe she would like this polish? ;)

I'm going to try Vita's suggestion and layer a dark polish underneath it and see if that gives it an added depth. If that doesn't work, I'll try what MM said and add some blingy top coat.

    1. You are NOT an old lady but I'm glad you like it!

  11. Hmm...I'm not sure dude, I'm not loving it. It's just not my kinda shade - if the gold sparkle-y bits were more prominent maybe?? Though, as far as things go, it looks way better on you than it would on me. It reminds me a lot like the new shade from Bobbi Brown fall collection.

    1. It looked complex and interesting in the bottle but maybe the shimmer doesn't show as much on the fingers. :( It does resemble the BB polish a bit. Can't say I wasn't tempted by that one as well, lol.

  12. I think it is pretty! I think it is one of those shades that has to be styled just right though - proper edgy outfits make this not at all old lady!

    1. I can see it with an all black outfit... or with other shades of purple. Or even with mustard yellow. Thanks for a new spin!

  13. the first thought that came to mind when I saw the pic was ''frosty'' which doesnt suit everyone, especially old ladies. The color is pretty, but something's off

    1. It's not frosty exactly but there's an element of that in it. It's bugging me. :<

  14. If this is old lady-ish then slap me and call me Agatha because I LIKE IT.

  15. I like it -- very nice for fall. I think it's the metallic finish you don't like, but the colour is so pretty that you can't really hate it. :P

    1. I'll have to pull it out and try again - maybe my thoughts have changed since putting it on last year!

  16. I really like this on you Liz....so perfectly "fall", you know? Even though it was a limited edition shade, I think that it was reissued by Dior, cause I would swear that I saw it at The Bay's Dior counter recently (but don't quote me!). It also looks a lot like swatches I've seen of the new Bobbi Brown shade, so maybe that can fulfill any unwanted lemmings you may have stirred up! :)

    1. Apparently it's permanent. I think it'd fit nicely with the trio of LE purples that are out right now though. :) I'm not too interested in the BB nails though that turquoise actually looks really pretty!

  17. I guess it depends on how you wear it. But to me - an old lady colour is either a sheer mettalic pink or bronze, not this one. And if I am not mistaken, this shade was called Aztec Chocolate before - which is weird, it does not look brown to me at all.
