Sample Month Day 3: Really Old Lancome GWP Shadow Palette

I have maybe half a dozen of these things, from the bygone days of having been a Lancome devotee. Those days are over now, though I still like a lot of Lancome products. It's just... they got kind of expensive at some point. And my makeup horizon expanded drastically beyond the Lancome/Clinique/MAC counters at The Bay.

Anyway, as I thought of clearing out and tossing really old products, these GWPs came to my attention. I hoarded them but never really used them. And this one in particular seemed perfect for the season.

This just screams autumn, doesn't it?

Unfortunately it also screamed poor quality. Though I applied MAC Soft Ochre as a base prior to application, the colour payoff was virtually non-existent. Not sure if this one in particular was a bad batch or if time took its toll, but I can't tolerate bad products that I didn't even spend money on. You'll see it in the next round of empties for sure. Toss!

  1. The colors look so pretty and promising! Very autumny. Would've been lovely, if only it didn't have that weak color payoff. :T

  2. Hi Liz, You're really rolling all these posts out! (Love it) The palette's colors do seem pretty, though I suppose there's plenty of colors with payoff, so no reason to stick with one without. I had a couple Lancome mini GWP palettes, but I didn't reach for the often.

    1. Thanks, Dovey! I didn't take enough pics and almost didn't publish this post but decided to just write it anyway. Hopefully I'll be able to keep it going. :) I was disappointed but glad at the same time to be able to make room for better quality products!

  3. Yeah the shadows in GWP are so bad. I've never had a good one yet.

    1. I've had a few that weren't bad but this one is terrible!

  4. TOSS. Hahaha. I don't think I've ever had a GWP palette that was any good.

  5. For some reason your post title had me chuckling. :) Good on you for axing this quad. I don't have patience for bad products either (she says as she thinks of her √Čtude House brow pencil that she dislikes but forces herself to keep & use...)

    1. I was going to retrieve the palette to see if there was a proper name but it's not like anyone can get it and why would they want to? There was no point in expanding any more energy over it. :) Some things can be used even if they're not up to par but I'd be wasting my time with these, trying to get them to show up on the skin.

    2. Sage words.
I think I'll hang onto the brow pencil because it's not bad; it's simply not my favourite. However, you've got me reconsidering my NYX Golden eyeshadow. I've never liked it on me but have hung onto it because I thought I needed to get used to seeing myself with eye makeup. However, I'm more interested in having a collection rather than an accumulation. <-- I reread your collection vs accumulation post a few nights ago.

By the way, I actually like those GWP for the e/s pans. They are the perfect size for pressing. I know you can't be bothered... but those pans are actually hard to come by (or I'm not looking in the right places.)

  6. Pretty colors. However, I've used Lancome eye shadows before and was not convinced about their quality.

    1. Their shadows were never popular, but now they're finally getting with the program and pushing out new and better variety! Just... they're expensive. x__x

  7. I gave away my Lancome GWP palettes because they're all pretty low quality. If it takes a thousand layers to make the colour seem somewhat opaque only to fade away within a couple of hours ... no thanks!

  8. Aw man, I'm sorry these shadows were such a fail, because they look so nice in the pan! And I'm with you wrt Lancome's prices––they're always so much more expensive than I expect them to be! Ah well.

    1. They seemed fine before - but lately everything is soaring and it's hard to go back to old favourites when there are so many other options, ya know?

  9. That's such a shame, I love these colors!

  12. "Really old Lancome..." caught my eye - I'm damn sure I'll have some really old Lancome GWP stuff somewhere in my drawer! Shame about the lack of colour payoff - if it's obviously not even worth a swatch then it's time to go. BTW on a random note I love the new clean look of your blog layout. I need the blogger fairies to give me help with mine cos it's overdue for an overhaul :p

    1. I might give all of them the toss but want to swatch them first. Just no time this week!

Thanks, Vita! Mine was overdue too but the push came when I came across another blog with the same design. ;(
