THE GREAT HUNT FOR A GREAT BLUSH

Well, maybe a great blush. I'm not actually sure about its quality since I have yet to lay eyes on it in person. But after seeing glimpses of this Essence Cherry Blossom Girl Collection on Emma Bovary Beauty, I knew that I had to chase down the blush after the success of the Twilight Renesmee Red Blush. I stand by my mantra that a pretty blush is a pretty blush, no matter the price and perceived brand reflection.

www.becomegorgeous.com

After a rather emotional morning (LONG STORY, but the gist of it is: I took the day off work to go into this long-awaited appointment, went there with unwashed hair, looking like total crap, and the referred professional was someone I knew from the past, and I got the matter dealt with but cried like a child throughout, and the whole thing was awkward and horrible and wonderful all at once - ah no, I was not dying or getting an abortion) -- damn, are you guys still with me? -- I caved and decided that a small treat was in order after all this fuss. Like, a lollypop after going to the dentist. So when I spotted the Cherry Blossom Girl promotional stand at the nearest Shoppers Drug Mart, I raced to grab a blush and found to my dismay that each stand only carries TWO of each item. The SA I spoke to suggested that I run down the street to the next nearest Shoppers, which I promptly did, and it turned out that I was too late again. But down the next block was another Shoppers, so on and on I went, until I checked EIGHT different Shoppers location from noon to 5pm as I ran errands all over town. Two of each item on every single display, with only the blushes completely sold out at every location. What the bloody fuck is the point of that? Clearly, Essence is not out to make any money. And they are stirring up lemmings that cannot be had, which is infuriating. I am emotional and needy and the inner blush whore needs to be appeased STAT.

Check out some great shots and swatches of the blush here at buntewollsocke.blogspot.com. And just for today, pretend that I'm no reductionista and suggest some alternatives. MAC Peaches?

(By the way, there's a fashion blog out there with the name Cherry Blossom Girl and it's great.)

EDIT: Reader and fellow makeup fiend Chloe picked one up for me! Happiness! :-)

  1. Maybe try Ebay & set up an alert?

    That sounds so frustrating!

  2. I don't get why they only put 2 out. Makes no sense to me at all! If I see one here I will pick it up for you! Stupid marketing. Two. Pffft.
Hope you are feeling a bit better by now though Liz! Hugz!

  3. Are you okay, my darling? I'm glad to hear that you got the matter settled but NOT so glad that someone/something made my dear wifey cry. Tell me who it is and I will take care of it for you!!! *shakes fist menacingly* :P

Oh, and I am very curious about these Essence blushes now after hearing good things about the other one from you!

    1. Aw, thanks, wifey. Just going through a rather tough life stage and being a total baby about it apparently. :< (Please beat up my life.)

I wouldn't go so far as to say these are the greatest blushes or anything, but they rock for the $3-5 pricing! And just so darn pretty. :)

  4. Hi Liz,

I'm impressed with your persistence! 8 Shoppers?! I hope your day got better afterwards--- and hopefully the elusive Cherry Blossom will show up some day soon :)

    1. I was pretty exhausted by the 5th Shoppers but there were a few more on my route so I decided to keep poking my head into check, lol. Got one now, thanks, Dovey! :)

  5. LOL! I'm giggling over here because I splurged and broke my MU ban to get this blush. It was the last one at the closest SDM. I love it. I *had* to get it because I lurvvvvee peachy blushes and I couldn't get over the name: "Asian Sensation". I even made my guy watch me apply it this morning. I don't know why -- maybe because I wanted to be an Asian Sensation for him. heh heh. :)

    1. Did you now?? Heck, it's only $4 so why not, eh? I didn't even know that it has a name. So how do you like it quality-wise?

Essence only became available here last year. I've only tried two thing by them and given the price, can't complain. I just wish they'd put out more than 2 LE products per store!

  11. Shopping for makeup at the drugstore is definitely an awesome pick-me-up! I used to do it all the time. Now I just go there to look. :P

The Body Shop has great baked blushes! Have you tried them yet? I have the Coral one. :)

Also, not a blush, but Physician's Formula came out with new bronzers, and they're all so. cute. My favorite is the little heart ones, but they look like marshmallows and I'd be so tempted to eat them. o_O

    1. I have looked at Body Shop blushes but the colours didn't really call out to me, probably because I already have similar shades among the pile of 50+ blushers dying a slow death in my train case. :x

And also saw the PF bronzers but I'm not a big bronzer fan, though the hearts are VERY cute. I kicked the bronzer habit a while back. :)

    2. I'm not much of a bronzer fan either, honestly. But marshmallow hearts! :P

    3. The only reason I can resist it is because I already have the PF Happy Boosting hearts blush. :D

    1. I discovered that I don't really have peach blushes. For shame, right? There's no Essence where you are???

Lol @ romance. I really don't think so but I'll continue the story if there's anything to add. :)

  13. Oh damn.. I'm going to hunt this down tomorrow. Wish me luck!

  14. LOL, so THIS is where the peach blush lemming is coming from...

Weirdly enough, I think I have more peach blush than any other colour!!!

You should get a coral, too. Just sayin'. Like MAC Fleur Power. Do you have that one yet? And actually, you should get Pinch Me, too. That one's totally up your alley since it covers both peach AND red. I'ma check my stash for extras. YOU JUST WAIT FOR YOUR GOODY BAG, MISSY.

    1. Hahahaha, yep. ;)

I don't have Fleur Power or Pinch Me - but they look pink???? I'm going to go through the "peaches" and corals next, so we'll see what I else I need or don't need. *jumpy clappy hands* YAY GOODY BAG! LOL

  16. Hurray, I'm so glad you finally got it! Helpful readers are the best :) But I'm sorry you had such a terrible day––hope all is okay now, love! And why is it that you always run into attractive people from your past when you're wearing sweats and your hair is sticking up like a bird's nest? (Or, as has happened for me, run into your students when you're looking like something the cat dragged in...) Also, I now want this blush, even though it is not a shade that would work for me. It's just so darn pretty!

    1. I knew the blogosphere would not fail me! I'll report back on the blush in Feb. :)

LOL Amy, if I knew, these things wouldn't happen so often. Such a beauty blogger fail when I can't even wash my hair properly and get to an appointment on time. I can't imagine you ever not looking so darn cute but damn those students and their bad timing!

  17. I would never have looked twice at this blush but I looked at the swatches on the linked blog and I really like it! I happened to be at an SDM this morning and found the whole display, only missing a few nail polish colours. I bought the blush and the sparkle body powder stuff - can't wait to try it out when I get home!

    1. Damn, hope I haven't hyped it up too much! But what do you think now that you have it? Was it worth it???

      Delete
    2. Totally worth it. I mean really - $4?! Plus I don't have that many blushes and I definitely don't have one like this. I'm wearing it today and it's a nice little flush, but subtle enough that I can still do a red lip.

  18. YOU HIT 8 SHOPPERS? Holy Moly....you deserve some kind of award for that perseverance, that's for sure! Or at the very least, I hope the powers that be at Essence are reading this, take pity on you, and dump a batch of goodies your way - including this blush!

    1. Well, it's not as amazing as it sounds, because in the downtown core, we have about 5-6 Shoppers all in one area and it's no trouble to hit 3-4 on the way to a destination. I just decided to make the most of the day off and stopped at literally every single one I saw, LOL!

      Delete
  19. Oh man, I can't even chuckle at you going to 8 Shoppers because I'm sure I've done that before (or close to it...we don't have 8 Shoppers probably in Halifax but you know what I'm sayin'!). What a day you had, Liz! I would totally have gone (or attempted) to go spoil myself with a little pretty. I mean, as far as things go, you would have only did minor damage, so at least you're reasonable. Unlike some other people you know ~ahem~ *guilty face*

    1. The next time you're here, I'm taking you to all my favourite Shoppers. ;D

I think I fixated on it because the thing is only $4. I wouldn't have done this for a $40 blush because those aren't selling out like hotcakes - I know where to go for those. It appears that we've switched up a bit. I'm feeling very calm and in control right now, which is a relief, but I do wonder how long it will last. And I'm sure that you will enjoy your "damages" to the fullest and they will look gorgeous on you!

  20. Beyond adorable blush! You really are a makeup/blush fiend though! EIGHT different Shoppers?? You are committed, lady. So glad you finally got your hands on one. I was pretty meh about Essence before but between Renesmee and now this one, you've got me curious about grabbing a blush too :>

    1. Hey, a good $4 blush can't be passed up, even if it has a stupid name like "Asian Sensation." :) Let me know if you end up with one!

      Delete
  21. LOL at "Asian Sensation"! I think the color of this blush is more dupe-able than not so if you're not specific about the name it is given, or the floral imprint, there's probly another blush with the same color just around the corner ;)

salute your stamina of going to 8 different stores for the same blush!

    1. I'm sure that there are tons of better dupes, but I'm a sucker for a bargain and a $4 treat is too good to pass up. :DDD

  22. So happy to hear that I started a lemming, and am happy that you managed to get your hands on one :) I agree with you, I collect pretty blushes and am content with my hobby. It turns out I quite like this blush on me, I've only worn it once and it didn't last all that well, but I think for that price I don't mind.

    1. I would have been so angry at you if I didn't get it, Emma! ;D

Glad to hear it performs well. I think a part of the reason I fixated on it is that if it was crap quality, I wouldn't be weeping over $4. But I could still stare at the cherry blossom design and think of spring time. :)
