Orange Cheeks

Just a quick note for those who were curious as to how vivid orange cheeks could be worn. I think this picture is just gorgeous! The orange tone of the blush is echoed as a softer peach on the lips, and there are no competing colours on the canvas other than some brown shadow action to create and emphasize contours.

Obviously I won't be wearing it in this manner, as I don't frequent runways or fashion shoots, but the picture works as a source of inspiration. Here are a couple of diffused/blended swatches of MUFE #18 versus heavy swatches. (Both on bare skin without primers.)

I'll give this shade a thorough test run and will report back on any failures or stories resulting from this week's episode of clown cheeks.

  1. The model looks gorgeous! I tried the eyeshadow like I told you I would in your last post and nada, not feeling the love! I can do peachy corals with ease. If I can be bothered enough with orange, I may get the Sleek Blush by 3. There is one orange with two other wearable-ish shades I think.

Will look forward to hearing your blush stories :)

    1. I'm talking about the Sleek palettes in the comments of the last post with a reader named Mimi. I think the Sleek stuff is what I was thinking about in the back of my head when I set out to acquire the super bright cheek stuff!

As for orange not looking good, it's probably not a shade for everyone - heck, not really me either - but I think it's nice to have fun with an unconventional shade once in a while. :)

    2. I know Sleek offers international delivery but if you need anything, I can pick some up for you and send it your way :)

  2. Woah, that blush looks amazing on the model. Totally inspired to give it a try (once my massive cheek pimple is gone!).

    1. Sorry to hear about your cheek pimple! They are the worst. (After volcanic nose pimples and middle of the forehead unicorn horn pimples.) Would love to see your look if you go there!

  3. I love orange cheeks. I went through a period where I was kind of obsessed and wore them all the time... I have La Femme Orange and a couple orange NYX eyeshadows that work beautifully as blushes, which I saw suggested on youtube (wish I could remember who specifically!) I think orange can be worn by all skintones, but looks especially stunning on dark skintones

    1. These MUFE "blushes" are actually produced to double as shadows as well, and a lot of people have used shadows as blush before. I agree with you though that orange can be worn by all skintones! Just have to find the right shade/way to do it. :)

I had the Monday morning syndrome and didn't have time for a tricky look today but I shall tomorrow!

  7. the model wears it very well!!
there had been a time i was greatly obsessed with orange blushes because they give the cheeks a healthy flush! nowadays they don't look like that on my cheeks anymore, maybe my cheeks had lost the 'pink undertones' that comes with aging LOL so i just found them look flat and dull and dirty XD

reading your blush posts made me wanna pull out every blush and do a swatchfest!!! I'd name it by categories haha - lilacs, purples, pinks (can divide into cool/warm), peaches, oranges, reds, plums, browns, etc ;D it'll be great for the blush fiends to do such a series!!!

    1. I guess that's why she's a model. ;D

Oh, gosh. I feel like this year I've become a bit more wan and less rosy as well. Maybe I just wallow in the orange as a result, lol.

I love seeing blushes so please conduct that swatchfest immediately! I plan on going on with them. Next up will be neutrals!

  8. Love clown cheek episodes. :)

MAC released two blushes called Immortal Flower and Modern Mandarin last year that were AMAZING. I really hope they release them again...

On that note, to keep matte blushes from looking so harsh on the skin, I like to buff in a glowy/shimmery highlight colour on top to give it some dimension. In case your clown cheeks look TOO clown-y... (you know, the kind of clown-y that you can't even be seen in public with because you will genuinely scare people and possibly yourself in the mirror, as opposed to the trendy-clown-cheeks-as-a-statement look).

    YAYYYYY ORANGE BLUSH!!!

    1. I remember them!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And weird, why didn't I comment on that post? Because I wanted both IF and MM but felt I shouldn't indulge. :(

Thanks for the tip re: highlighter. I've been meaning to do that but feel so rushed in the morning that highlighting is the step I skip completely almost all the time. But I did try to deepen the orange flush today and ended up buffing a lot of it out with a kabuki to tone down the clown. It was still kind of intense though. But I like it. :)

  12. I haven't branched out into orange blushes. If I do, I think I might grab an Essence eyeshadow (cheap!) and give the look a go. Anyway, nothing to add here... enjoying your archives. I've missed a lot.
